1838-1988 Pitcairn Islands 150th Anniversary of the Constitution. $50 Silver Proof Commemorative Coin.
In 1790 mutineers from HMS Bounty, led by Fletcher Christian, landed on Pitcairn and a basic code of law for the islanders was introduced in 1838.
This beautiful coin commemorates that event.
The obverse of the coin features Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the inscription "Elizabeth II, Pitcairn Islands" and the denomination 50 Dollars. The reverse of the coin features a design by the Royal Mint engraver Robert Elderton depicting HM Sloop Fly and the inscription "Drafting of Constitution 1838-1988".
Only 10,000 silver proof coins were issued and struck in .999 fine silver. The coin weighs in at 155.6 grammes (5 troy ounces) and has a diameter of 65.00 mm.
Protected by a perspex coin holder and presented in an attractive blue Royal Mint presentation case with certificate.
