Details of 1849 'To Hanover' Token
| PLEASE NOTE POST AND PACKING FOR THIS ITEM IS 60p. 1849 Queen Victoria Counter depicting the young Queen's head (Obverse). Because she was a woman Victoria could not become King of Hanover, like her predecessors, so her unpopular uncle, the Duke of Cumberland, was sent to Hanover instead. These counters, depicting the Duke on his steed galloping off with 1837 Coronation date below (Reverse), were made to celebrate his departure. The brass counters were issued, mainly in Birmingham, but their production became illegal under the Counterfeit Medal Act of 1883. Satisfaction guaranteed or full refund on returns within seven days.
